On Saturday, our friend Ms. Jen Bloom, came to visit- well, technically she was in San Diego for a teaching conference- though officially we'll say she was here to meet Nate. We had SUCH a nice time catching up, wandering around Balboa Park, eating Japanese food at the Friendship Garden for lunch (Jed and my *favorite* weekend thing to do) and just giggling and smiling all together. She and Nate hit it off, he was his usual flirtatous self, smiling and cackling for everyone's pure delight.
On Sunday we enlisted the help of my parents (they had to walk all the way from next door) in getting our vegetable garden and pond off the ground...or should I say into. My official project is the garden, which I dug out of the lawn, and then Jed noticed the filled in "pond" out front. He decided he wanted to take on that project himself and shoveled the dirt out, landscaped around it and is anticipating the next trip to Home Depot to purchase the water pump. I think I may be secretly more excited about the pond than my own veggies :)
This morning I stopped off at Armstrongs, got a handful of seeds and a few starters (I can only stand so much delayed gratifiation) and threw it all in the ground during Nate's afternoon nap. We'll see what comes up!
Finally, this afternoon, I also officially finished my first knit soaker! (pictures to follow soon- Nate's off to bed right now) For those not in the know, it's a wool cover for diapers. I made one from little turtle knits and for a first time soaker, I'm pretty darned impressed with myself. Of course, I did the whole "test swatch" at the beginning but for whatever reason, Nate ended up with A LOT of room to grow in these. I'll see if I can make the next one a little more "form-fitting." I'm super-excited to have these before summer starts because they're much more breathable than the regular covers I use and they just feel nice, you know?
Well, that's last weekend...this week Jed's brothers, Justin and Kevin, come into town for the Cubs v Padres basesball game on Thursday. We're all going to that and then going over to Catalina for the weekend with my parents. 9 on the boat- it looks like Nate and I may have to sleep in the dinghy! I'll try to keep you posted on it all- happy Monday!
