All I wanted to do was go camping this weekend but that was not in the stars.  This song and video helped me deal with it, though.  I love when pointless tv becomes much less pointless when  you get to hear an artist new to you in the final moments of a show.  Yippee for Ben Howard.

Another nostalgic song.  I was scrolling through my music library this weekend and this is the song I landed on.  I love when I find a song that I had forgotten and love it just as much as way back in '04 when I first heard it.

Oh, music sweet music.  Christmas carols are my all time favorite music genre (if they are that at all) and I do not limit myself to listening to them during the month of December.  But I do, however, limit my purchase of new Christmas music to only during this month and this was on my list of bought music this year.  She & Him singing my most favorite of winter songs (reversed too!- you'll see what I mean when you listen):

Yes, I know, there are a bazillion songs about California.  And, yes, I know how silly it is that a native Californian would recommend a song about California.  Because, of course, I love California.  It's the smell of sage.  It's the sight of avocado orchards growing from incredibly steep rocky hillsides.  It's the mist of salt spray along the coast.  It's the dappled light shining through impossibly high redwood trees onto windy blacktop roads.  It's the subtle shades of orange: from the native poppies, the orbs hanging from trees,  spectacular sunsets, and fires burning through scrub lands.  It's home.

Or maybe I just chose this song because it includes a reference to my favorite Shel Silverstein book.  

Either way, worth a listen.

Really, no words to describe getting to see Paul Simon perform this weekend.  The ones I choose seem to fall short.  He was incredible.  His band- with no less than 7 musicians playing seemingly every conceivable instrument was just as amazing.  He played all my favorites.  And more.  Here's one from Nashville earlier this year:

I was able to sneak this in before I left...the joys of scheduled blog posts :)  I couldn't imagine going a whole week without sharing music!  This group was recommended to me last week and they are amazing.  I do hope they make it further south this winter as it would be lovely to hear them sing live. enjoy  MaMuse
