Frightening or Funny?
So, I stumbled upon a site this evening that had some pretty interesting articles. This picture and headline were one of them I had never seen anything like this before and the writer had a somewhat interesting, if not slightly ironic lean in his writing.
The thing that is striking about all of it is how quickly they are selling out of these "hands." According to the article, they are "so popular the store has trouble keeping them in stock." I think this article really resonated for me tonight because we were having a relatively tough night. I got dinner going pretty late, knowing that it was backing up into Nate's bedtime but I was starving and felt that I couldn't wait. Well, Nathaniel would have none of that and, wouldn't you know it, 20 minutes into making dinner, he's screaming at the top of his lungs. I left dinner half cooked and went to nurse him to sleep. About 30 minutes later, he's wide awake and cooing at me and I'm still hungry. I pass him off to Jed to eat my now 1/2 cold dinner when half way through eating it he's screaming again. I snuggle him tight, he settles down and I end up eating dinner with him on my lap. I'm able to finish dinner, go through the whole nursing to sleep bit again and he's finally out. I settle down to check emails and, of course, I hear whimpering in the bedroom. Snuggle, snuggle...back to sleep. 10 minutes later, snuggle, snuggle... and here I am writing this. I can see how in a parenting delerium, these bean bag hands may actually seem like a good idea. In the end, though, I think the hands are of more comedic value than parental and I will leave the hands-on parenting to the flesh and blood of Jed and I. I better go wrap myself around my smallest snuggly now, before he wakes again...good night.
