let there be craft....

About a week ago (or more?) Jed and I went out and got some shelves from Ikea and set up a 'crafting' area for Nate where his kitchen and table had been since Christmas. Previously, all of his paint had been in a cabinet in the garage and all the other crafting materials in various locations throughout the house. I decided that I wanted to have them all in one, accessible place so that we could get some serious crafting on, resulting in a quick weekend trip to Ikea.

I am so pleased with the results. Nate has wanted to get in there every day to paint, glue, draw or play with playdough. I like the idea of the shelves, too, as I can kind of put things in a developmental order- all the things he can use on his own go on the lower shelves and the stuff he needs help with go up top. Eventually, he'll reach higher but I *hope* that means he'll also be able to use more materials unsupervised :)
I went back and forth about adding these shelves to our 'main' living area (it's between the dining room and living room, full view of kitchen) and, in the end, I realized that I like to craft most around people and that neither of us would be satisfied to have a craft room off on its own. So, here we are. I guess I didn't get a good picture of the whole thing but it has been a bit too dark to get good pictures as it has been cloudy and rainy all week (yippee!).

Jen & Jed,

A neat idea you came out with.Now Nate can be doing his crafts more on his own.
