Gratitude

Jed, Nathaniel and I were sitting over at my parent's house last night when it was dark and we were getting Nate into his jammies. All of a sudden it occurred to me- we hadn't taken one picture of Nathaniel celebrating his first Thanksgiving. No pictures of mashed potatoes smeared across his face and Jed's shirt, no pictures of his first bite of turkey, no pictures of his sheer delight at pushing his cart around the house to cheers from relatives. Nothing.

That's the thing about firsts- you either remember to chronicle them or you don't. And if you don't, it's missed and you don't get another chance.

That's okay though.

I'm still allowed to be thankful. Thankful to have my little family happy and healthy and loving each other. Happy to have my parents right next door to help share in the delights and work of raising up such an independent spirit. Thankful that we made the decision to move down where the sun always shines so that my son can know the joys of living so close to so much family.

I realized when we got home that all was not lost. Jed had picked up one of those awesome wooden bead/metal track toys that you find in doctor's offices for $5- Nate is in heaven. So we got home, Nathaniel settled in with his new toy and Jed and I just watched and enjoyed some quiet time. Sorry for the quality of the video, like I said, it was night. Please ignore Jed's eye roll, he obviously wasn't in the mood to be filmed...but I had to include him as I'm so very grateful to have him in my life as well.

These are the moments I'm so thankful for.
