Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

I recently had the good fortune to borrow a copy of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows. I can barely remember when the first Harry Potter book came out but I do remember how much it sucked me in. I am, admittedly, a pushover when it comes to children's books. I can read one every few days and still not get enough. I remember when I was "of children's book age" and I always felt that I had so little to read. Not so anymore...kids are so lucky nowadays :) (Or perhaps that's the old person in me speaking out!) Anyway...the book itself lives up to the standard that JK Rowling has set for herself and is every bit as good as it's 6 predecessors. The story is neatly tied up in this final story and we are reminded of the importance of happy endings (and a good Invisibility Cloak). I know that there are those who will put down Rowling and bemoan the fact that she follows on the coattails of others who were into the "magical genre" before Harry Potter was even an inkling of an idea but to those who say that, I reply, "Rubbish!" (She is British afterall), the Potter books pull you in and keep you going...that's some good writing in there!

If you have some time (turn off that tv, I bet you'll find some time!) I recommend you check them out. Now I'm on to Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn, one of my favorite authors as a teacher, I'm excited to see what he has to say to parents. After that another "children's book," Eldest by Christopher Paolini...oh how I love that magical genre. Thank goodness for babies who nap!
