Hiking in Torrey Pines

As if hanging out with out of town visitors wasn't enough for one weekend, on Sunday Jed, Nathaniel and I went to Torrey Pines State Park. Jed had never been there and it had been a couple of years for me, but it was a beautiful day and the red earth/blue sky park beckoned. Nathaniel was quite the trooper, barely breaking a sweat in the heat. We could actually see heat waves coming up off the hard baked earth. Two snakes joined us for a bit- one rattler and a gopher- a nice reminder that others live where we walk and recreate. I have to say, my favorite part of the hike was in the middle, we had just reached the bluffs above the beach and were greeted by a cool sea breeze. Nate starts to squirm a bit and its clear he's hungry. We hike to the highest point on the bluff, with the least amount of people and sit as a family- relaxing, eating, drinking, remembering what it means to be three. I am so incredibly in love with my family these days. wow.
